The Truth About Uncle Tom Sambo

The inspiration for the fictional charater Uncle Tom is actually was Mr Josiah Hanson and he was anything but a so called Uncle Tom He was the inspiration for the book Uncle Tom's Cabin He was a Black hero who sometimes gave his cotton to others so that they would not be beaten if they did not full their quota He also helped over 100 black people escape the atrocities of slavey before the establishment of the Underground Railroad He and his wife and children walked over 600 miles pursuing freedom in Canada where he founded the Dawn Institute a settlement house which taught trades to freedom seekers A Methodist preacher he traveled throughout the United States and Great Britain lecturing against slavery He was anything but an Uncle Tom Now Sambo well that s another story which we also touch on in this video We hope that you enjoy this presentation
