Mary Tyler Moore revolutionized television and became a role model for a generation of women She won over fans with her fashion sense and comic timing on the classic sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show But that was only a warm-up for her masterpiece The Mary Tyler Moore Show She showed that 1970s America was ready to embrace a strong and smart unmarried career woman In her own life she battled diabetes and alcoholism as well as the loss of her son However she continued to give her time and enthusiasm generously as an advocate for animal rights and for others who suffered from diabetes We remember and thank Mary Tyler Moore for all the laughter and smiles
